2022 Ordeals

An Ordeal weekend is where candidates who were elected by their Scouts BSA Troop, Crew or Ship become Ordeal members in the Order of the Arrow. Each Chapter, which is a group that represents the Order of the Arrow members in each district, hosts a Lodge Ordeal Weekend throughout the calendar year. However, elected candidates are welcome to attend any weekend during the year.
An elected candidate is eligible to take their Ordeal for a 2-year period after being elected.  If they do not complete the Ordeal in that time, they must be re-elected.  
Upon arrival to Broad Creek Scout Reservation (address and directions below), please report
to the camp where your Ordeal is being held (see below).

Ordeal Candidates:
Plan to arrive to camp by 7pm on Friday evening in Field Uniform (Class A).  
Pick up is Sunday 10am

**Due to COVID-19 the list of items that candidates need to bring to camp has been updated**
  • BSA Health & Medical Record (Parts A&B)
  • At least 2 facemasks. Facemasks with valves or holes are not permitted.
  • At least 2 pairs of Nitrile gloves
  • Work clothes and gloves for Saturday
  • Rain gear if rain is in the forecast
  • Bedding appropriate for outdoor weather
  • Ground cloth
  • pocket knife
  • water bottle
  • flashlight
  • 36-inches of cord
  • personal toiletries
  • Tent and sleeping bag for Sat night camping
  • You should arrive to camp in your Field (Class A) Uniform.  It is recommended that you do NOT wear your neckerchief or merit badge sash.
  • Medications (if any) 
  • Spending Money for Lodge Trading Post

All Ordeals have a maximum of 100 Ordeal Candidates - Registration Ends Sunday before each Ordeal, so please Register Early -  NO Walk-Ins or Late Registrations Accepted!

From Baltimore City
I-95 N. to Exit 80 (Churchville). Travel towards Churchville on Rte. 543. Go about 2 miles and turn right on Rte. 136. Go about 12 miles north on Rte. 136. You will cross Rte 22 and Rte. 1. Three miles from Rte. 1 you will come to a four way stop in Dublin.
Camp Saffran
Via U.S. Route 1 North. Route 1 to left on Maryland Route 136. Right onto Peach Orchard Road to stop sign. Right at stop onto Susquehanna Hall Road. Right into Broad Creek entrance. Right into parking lot.

Camp Oest

"North on I-95 through Baltimore to Exit 80 where you go left at the end of ramp) onto MD 543 for 1.9 miles.   At the light, turn right on Rt. 136 north.  After 10.1 miles (that's 0.9 miles after crossing U.S. Rt. 1), turn right at the flashing light (the town of Dublin) on Rt. 440 for a block, then turn left on Castleton Rd.   After 1.5 miles, left on Day Rd. for a block.  Turn right on Robinson Mill Rd. (camp signs will help for those last three turns) for 1 mile to the Camp Oest parking lot.  The parking lot is at 39 degrees 41.1 minutes North and 76 degrees 15.65 minutes West.  It’s a total of forty miles and about 55 minutes from the I-95 tunnel in Baltimore to Camp Oest."
